Walls of Tramontana

Overview

The Walls of Tramontana are what remains of Trapani's ancient city walls that follow the curvilinear profile of the city's hemmed coastline. Today, they represent the opportunity for a pleasant walk on the sea that starts from the square of the ancient fish market, passing through the Fortino di Sant'Anna fort or the Imperial ramparts, built by Charles V of Habsburg in the early 1500s, up to the

Tower of Ligny, erected in the 17th century to defend the city, open towards the sea. Today it houses a civic museum, but reaching it at sunset is worth the walk: the spectacle of the sun engulfed by the sea is more impressive here than anywhere else. Along the walk, you will encounter a few places that are ideal for a break, and you will come across some narrow streets leading to the centre.
