Real Casina of Caccia in Ficuzza

Overview

The Real Casina of Caccia in Ficuzza Forest is a building of great historical value located on the edge of the Ficuzza Forest.

Commissioned by Ferdinand of Bourbon from the architect Giuseppe Venanzio Marvuglia at the end of the 18th century, when the king fell in love with the beauty of the Ficuzza Forest and decided to make it a hunting reserve and a summer resort. The neoclassical structure shows influences of late Sicilian Baroque, and is surrounded by a park that extends to the forest.   The Hunting House maintains all the sober elegance of the original project on the outside, while the interiors have undergone various lootings and transformations over the years, leaving the chapel of the house as the only witness to the original style.

After having hosted the headquarters of the Forestry Corps for years, today the Real Casina welcomes visitors to the Ficuzza Forest, Rocca Busambra, Bosco del Cappelliere and Gorgo del Drago Oriented Natural Reserve through themed paths and a multimedia room dedicated to the nature of the park.
