Corleone

Overview

Corleone is a city of ancient origins, rich in history and culture, which lies in a mountainous basin and is surrounded by imposing rocky ramparts, among which the ""Soprano" castle" stands out, adorned by the tower known as Saracena, and the "Sottano castle".

The history of Corleone is rooted in prehistory, as evidenced by several finds in the areas surrounding the town, but the first written evidence of the city dates back to the Middle Ages. The town has seen important developments under the Normans, the Ghibellines and during the Sicilian Vespers, playing an important role in the history of Sicily and Italy during the Garibaldi movements. The historic centre is rich in monuments of interest: in particular, the large number of sacred buildings built since the Middle Ages has earned Corleone the nickname "City of Hundred Churches".  Not to be overlooked are also the natural beauties that surround the area, such as the Bosco della Ficuzza and the waterfall of the Two Rocks, which is located a few steps from the historic centre.
