Cefalù

Overview

Arriving in Cefalù, one is immediately struck by the monumental fortress that towers over the town, which reaches a height of 270 metres and houses the Temple of Diana at the top, an ancient building linked to the cult of water. The historic heart of the village has risen up right under this immense bastion, as a protector, and revolves around the Duomo, an enormous cathedral commissioned by Roger II. Also not to be missed is the Medieval Washhouse: entirely dug into the rock and active until not so long ago, it can be reached by a beautiful stone staircase and, once there, the impression is of being in another time, when everything had the slow rhythm of manual labour. And finally, Cefalù is its sea. A marvellous sea, in front of which to stroll, perhaps in the evening, watching the magic of the illuminated port and enjoying excellent fish dishes.
