Caronia

Overview

In the territory of the Nebrodi Park, surrounded by a purely Mediterranean nature, rises Caronia whose origins go back as far as myth and already hint at the close relationship that binds this village with the sea: the first nucleus of the settlement is said to be of Greek foundation and was called Kale Akte, from "Kalh Acth: beautiful coast". Dominating the town and the sea as far as the horizon is the Castle: built during the 12th century and now privately owned, it is one of the best-preserved buildings of Norman architecture in Sicily and is a fortified complex with an imposing wall equipped with defensive towers. In front, welcoming the traveller seeking refreshment and serenity, is the sea. The town's beach is still home to the small fishing boats that, amidst the calls of the seagulls and the rustle of the waves, make this place unique, almost enchanted.
