Tempio Pausania

Overview

A town 'carved' in granite. Tempio Pausania lies in the centre of Gallura, at the foot of Mount Limbara, and is surrounded by woods and pure springs. There are numerous and important remains from the Nuragic period, including the nuraghi Maiori and Izzana, perhaps the largest in Gallura. Tempio is also festivity, colours and traditions, as in carrasciali timpiesu, the allegorical carnival that attracts and involves tens of thousands of people every year. Not to be missed are the cathedral of San Pietro and Piazza Faber, dedicated to Fabrizio de Andrè, with an installation designed by Renzo Piano. In the streets of the historic centre paved in granite stone, there are cafés and restaurants where you can taste sweets and typical dishes, such as the delicious suppa cuata.
