Monteleone Rocca Doria

Overview

The (almost) ghost town of Sardinia

Its position makes it a true natural fortress. Surrounded by the waters of Lake Temo and perched on a tufa limestone hill, Monteleone Rocca Doria is the most authentic representation of Sardinia. Now home to about 100 people and completely unencumbered with the frenzy of unbridled tourism on the coast, among its alleyways it feels as though time stands still.

We recommend admiring the churches of Sant’Antonio Abate and Santo Stefano, the only buildings spared when the town was destroyed in a battle for domination of the area in the 15th century. Not forgetting the ruins of the Doria Castle and the Museo della Panificazione Tradizionale (Traditional Bakery Museum).

From the Belvedere della Cava viewpoint, you can enjoy splendid views of the lake and surrounding countryside, particularly magical at sunset.
