Liscia Ruja

Overview

The Long Beach of the Costa Smeralda®

Liscia Ruja is the longest beach on the Costa Smeralda® and one of the most beautiful in Sardinia. You are in Arzachena, the beach extends for 500 metres and in some places reaches a width of 50 metres. In addition to this stretch of sand, there are several adjoining sandy shores so that the location is also known as Long Beach.

The name literally means 'red stripe', like the colour of the sand, which is white on most of the beach but turns reddish near the water's edge. This is because the sand is formed from the 'dust' of granite rocks that have crumbled over millennia. The water is crystal clear, emerald in colour and the seabed is shallow and sandy.

Behind Liscia Ruja, the Mediterranean scrub grows luxuriantly amidst the scents of cistus, arbutus, juniper and white lilies. We find the same vegetation in the small bays that dot the area. The islands of Soffi, Le Camere and Mortorio lie directly offshore.

Liscia Ruja is a predominantly summer destination but, given its size, is also worth visiting in spring, when you can take long walks along the shoreline and enjoy nature.
