Archaeological area of Janna 'e Pruna

The nuragic complex of Janna 'e Pruna is located in the territory of the small and nearby municipality of Irgoli. 

The sacred area lies on the ridge of Mount Senes, an area of great scenic value surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. The main find brought to light by the excavations is the temple that gives its name to the area, built with blocks of local granite and dated between the 12th and 9th centuries BC. The sacred purpose of the building is evidenced by the discovery of personal objects in the area in front of it, presumably votive offerings to thank the deities or attempt to gain their favour. A short distance away is the sacred spring of Su Notante, dated between the 12th and 10th centuries BC. The fascinating trapezoidal basalt construction is decorated with a still-active natural spring, and is one of the many nuragic monuments connected to water scattered throughout Sardinia.

The numerous objects and fragments found in the area are currently on display in the Antiquarium Comunale of Irgoli. The two floors of the archaeological museum house objects almost exclusively from the municipal territory, dating from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages.
