Arbatax

Overview

The municipality of Tortolì, the most populated urban centre in Ogliastra, is particularly known for its coastal hamlet, Arbatax, as well as for the large and fertile pond that flanks the historic centre.

Lying on Cape Bellavista and surrounded by a beautiful maritime landscape, the settlement of Arbatax sits on a strip of porphyry that in some places rises to the surface showing fascinating geological formations, such as the one known as Rocce Rosse (Red Rocks), which emerges near the town harbour.

Several ships from Genoa and Civitavecchia stop at the Arbatax pier, especially in the high season. Many travellers use this locality as a departure point to other destinations, but just as many choose to spend a few days in the waters and bays of Ogliastra, which in terms of beauty are in no way inferior to the more famous beaches of Sardinia.

The town also comes alive during the warm Mediterranean evenings with bars, live music and restaurants that reflect in style and offer the relaxed and authentic soul of this pearl of the Sardinian east coast.
