Pizzomunno

Overview

Candid and imposing monolith in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Adriatic

The world is full of natural beauties whose history is shrouded in incredible legends, whose fascination remains unbroken over the centuries. One of these is Pizzomunno, in Vieste. The Pizzomunno is an imposing limestone monolith, a good 25 metres high. Locating it is very easy: you will find it, in all its majesty, at the beginning of the Mattei promenade, south of the town centre.

It almost seems to stand guard over Vieste and is still the symbol of the Gargano town. All you have to do is take out your smartphone and open the camera, and you will be able to capture one of the most fascinating landscapes of the entire Adriatic coastline. Admire it also from above, more precisely from Via Bracco, in the historic centre of Vieste.

Making the atmosphere even more special is the legend associated with the white monolith: Pizzomunno is said to have been a young man turned to stone by the jealousy of the Sirens, who thus prevented his love story with Cristalda from coming true.
