Salve

Overview

The village of Salve, whose Marina is known as the 'Maldives of Salento' for its crystal-clear waters and fine sand, has a peculiarity that distinguishes it from almost all Italian towns: surrounded by countryside, perched on a hill, its historic centre is... on the outskirts! Here, towers and stately palaces stand, and one can admire the Chiesa Matrice where the oldest organ in Apulia dating back to the 17th century is kept, and the courtyard of Palazzo Ceuli, symbol of the village with its arches, balconies and loggias. In the countryside that embraces the town, however, the monuments of rural art, such as dry stone walls, 'furneddhi' and masserie, remain intact, while in its Marinas, life follows the rhythm of the sea: fishing villages, where the port still represents the heart of the town, you can breathe in saltiness and traditions, your eyes rest on the ancient gestures of the sailors and the scent of the sea inebriates and enchants.
