Lucera

Overview

A town of art and culture, Lucera stands on three hills, an area rich in vineyards, and dominates, from its privileged position, the entire Tavoliere delle Puglie plain. An ancient city steeped in history, it is surrounded by walls that guard the oldest soul of the town, with its elegant palazzos and Renaissance churches. The building that best recounts Lucera's past, however, is the Swabian Fortress: full of mysteries that have not yet been fully elucidated, the palace built within the fortification had no access doors and underground passages were used to enter and exit that have not yet been fully discovered. While this palace certainly housed one of the mints of the state, it also seems to have concealed Frederick II's harem. Reality and legends intertwine here in a fascinating tale, to be discovered as you stroll through the town and let yourself be lulled by its infinite stories.
