Lizzano

Overview

A village of land and sea, of enchanting sea and high quality crops: Lizzano is a village that still retains a very strong link with rural culture, a link that is represented by the DOC wine named after the village. The Byzantine monks lived here for centuries, leaving important traces of their artistic and spiritual imprint, still evident today in the rocky Crypt of the Annunziata: the Crypt is located about one kilometre from the historical centre and is still today, as it was in the Middle Ages, an important place of worship and Marian pilgrimage. Moving from the hinterland to the sea, one arrives at Marina di Lizzano: golden sand, low cliffs and dunes of Mediterranean maquis accompany the coastline for 7 kilometres, offering a place where one can let oneself be lulled by nature and admire in silence this wonderful sea.
