Ponte Borbonico

Overview

The most beautiful views of Polignano a Mare

At the foot of this 15-metre-high bridge lies one of the most beautiful beaches in Apulia. From the bridge, you can enjoy stunning views as your gaze sweeps from the coastline plunging into the crystal-clear sea to the old town, with its low, white houses shimmering in the sunlight.

The Ponte Borbonico bridge is one of the landmarks of Polignano a Mare – an unmissable destination, especially at sunset, when you can take beautiful photos of the red-tinted horizon. It was built in the early 19th century, by order of Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies, as part of a new road to connect Bari to Lecce. You can walk down its steps to Lama Monachile, for a dip in the waters of the area’s most famous cove.
