Cascata del Toce waterfall

Overview

The most beautiful and powerful waterfall in the Alps. With a height of 143 meters, it is the symbol of the Formazza Valley. And indeed the scenery in front of you is thrilling, the view of this flight of water is breathtaking. Illustrious personalities such as Lord Byron, Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Carducci and Gabriele D'Annunzio, as well as Queen Margherita and Vittorio Emanuele III, who stayed or stopped over here, were also aware of this. In short, it is a place that strikes poets and artists alike, with its 1675-metre height surrounded by rocky pastures and coniferous forests. Just above the waterfall are the dam and Lake Morasco, also a fascinating natural spectacle in which to set excursions and walks to the Swiss border. The waterfalls are visible at certain times of the year, that is, in summer from June to September, when the bulkheads open to allow the water to create this spectacle, as it is usually collected to feed the Morasco reservoir and through a tunnel led to the Enel power station.
