Superga

Overview

A unique view of the city of Turin

Those who want to enjoy a unique view over the city of Turin and treat themselves to a day of nature and relaxation on the outskirts of the Piedmontese capital can count on Superga

At the top of the hill stands the elegant Basilica di Superga, with a large Baroque dome designed by Filippo Juvarra and two perfectly symmetrical bell towers on either side. There are two ways to reach this vantage point: on foot, following the path from the Sassi station to the top of the mountain, or by boarding the historic Sassi-Superga tramway, which runs daily from 10.00 to 18.00.

Those who walk up to the basilica and also aim to reach the magnificent dome must prepare themselves for 131 steps, but the view from up there will repay the effort.

The Superga hill is sadly known for being the scene of the serious plane crash in which the Grande Torino players lost their lives in 1949. In memory of the players and crew members, there is a large memorial plaque at the crash site.
