Moncalvo

Overview

In the heart of Monferrato, amidst the hills of the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscapes, the medieval charm of the village of Moncalvo (which has held the title of City since 1705) blends with an evocative agricultural landscape. Precious Barbera, Grignolino and Freisa vineyards alternate with wooded patches rich in truffles; of the ancient castle, the mighty bastions built in the 12th century are still visible, and the historic center is embellished by notable medieval buildings, as well as churches housing valuable paintings. Moncalvese cuisine is a great attraction for tourists, with dishes such as fried mixed with monferrina, gran boiled, agnolotti, financiiera and 'bunet'. Two of the most important events are the Truffle Fair held in October and the Fat Ox Fair held in December.
