Malesco

Overview

Malesco lies between the Loana stream and the eastern Melezzo and is surrounded by dense forests. In Malesco, there is so much history of the Vigezzo Valley. The municipal archive houses important scrolls (13th-14th centuries) documenting the settlement of the Val Grande. The monument to the Chimney Sweep recalls Fausto Cappini, a young "rüsca" who died at the age of 14 while cleaning the chimney of a building in Milan.

From the historic village you can climb to the Zornasco floor along the Melezzo, and visit the ancient Jelmoli Mill (18th century), active until 1950 and still functioning today; it houses a museum that documents the milling of rye, buckwheat and chestnuts.
