Piazza del Mercato

The best place to admire the city of Domodossola is from this pentagonal square, surrounded by small Renaissance buildings with loggias and arches. The idea is to sit at one of the little tables at a café facing the square. Piazza del Mercato, as the name suggests, is also the home of the popular Saturday market, which even draws visitors from Switzerland. On the north side of the square, the street wedged between the buildings in the centre is Via Briona, which is considered the most picturesque, and is lined by stone-roofed houses with elegant balconies supported by caryatids. Here you can also see the tower of the Bishop's Palace.
