Bergolo

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

Nestled on the hills of the Langhe, terraced with ancient dry-stone walls, in a panoramic position overlooking the Bormida and Uzzone valleys, Bergolo is a small village meticulously cared for by its inhabitants, known as the "village of stone."

A handful of houses, entirely built from sandstone in a simple style, line the village's only street. In the central square stands the Parish Church of the Nativity of Mary, built in the 17th century, which houses a precious altarpiece. The Romanesque Chapel of San Sebastiano is located in the cemetery, just outside the center, in a particularly beautiful panoramic spot. Harmoniously integrated into the historical context of the small village, an open-air contemporary art gallery displays various forms of contemporary art, including murals, sculptures, and bas-reliefs, on the facades of buildings and in the hidden, most charming corners. These works are awarded every year through the “Bergolo: Village of Stone” competition, open to all Italian schools specializing in the arts since 1993.

Although Bergolo is a small village, it offers a wide cultural program with meetings and concerts organized in the new and picturesque Theater of Stone.

In addition to visual pleasures, taste is also satisfied, especially with the hazelnut cake, made with the fruits of the prized Tonda Gentile delle Langhe variety (Nocciola Piemonte IGP).
