Trisobbio

Overview

Halfway between Ovada and Acqui Terme, in the heart of the Alto Monferrato wine-growing landscape, the medieval village of Trisobbio climbs over 300 metres in altitude, on top of a hill overlooking the surrounding area.

The origins of the name of the village deserve a brief digression. Tradition has it that the municipality was established by three families of sober men, in the sense of moderate and wise: the Latin expression tres sobri changed over the centuries into the name Trisobbio.

The town's urban layout is composed of three concentric circles, embellished by the façades of a number of noble buildings, such as the De Rossi-Dogliotti building, the town hall. Following the village lanes uphill, you come to the marvellous Trisobbio Castle at its highest point, in the geographical centre of the village.
