Rocca di Angera

Overview

An enchanting panoramic location on Lake Maggiore

On the shores of Lake Maggiore, once a strategic location from which the territory could be ruled, Borromeo Castle, or the Rocca di Angera, is among the most beautiful and important architectural complexes in the area.
An imposing medieval castle, it is a collection of five buildings, each of which retains its iconic features.

A unique destination offering breath-taking panoramic views of the lake from the Main Tower, the fortress has been owned by the Borromeo family since 1449.
Over the centuries, the castle has been renovated and extended to become the complex we see today. Inside are exquisite frescoes, paintings and portraits. The most beautiful rooms include the Hall of Justice and the Sala dei Fasti (Hall of Splendours). Don’t miss the Museum of Dolls and Toys, with 12 rooms displaying a collection of examples from across Europe.

The jewel in the crown of the fortress is the Medieval Garden, the ideal place to relax. An exact replica of the original created in 2008, the garden is rich in symbolic significance.
