Lake Varese

Overview

Lake Varese, located at the foot of the Campo dei Fiori massif, bathes the territory of the capital and eight other municipalities of the Province.
La Schiranna, a town in Varese overlooking the lake, is an interesting tourist destination thanks to the Zanzi Park and the cycle path.

The park, one of the green lungs of the city, is equipped with tables that allow visitors to spend whole days outdoors, in the name of nature and fun.

Pearl of the lake is Isolino Virginia, a prehistoric site of international importance, easily reached by boat from Biandronno and perfectly connected to the cycle path of Lake Comabbio.

The bike path, about 30 km long, winds around the lake and allows you to practice a healthy sports activity, as well as observe picturesque landscapes.

Lake Varese is only six kilometers from the city, and was once the main economic source of the surrounding area: it is on those shores in fact that the first factories of the territory were born, at the end of the 1800s.

This lake can intrigue any tourist from different parts of the world thanks to the history that has made it today almost a museum; in fact, stilts of primitive men and dating back thousands of years have been found. The first remains were found as far back as 1863, and some of them can be found in the museum located on Isolino Virginia, while others are preciously preserved in the Civic Museum of the Municipality of Varese, located in Villa Mirabello.
