Castle of Belgioioso

Overview

It was probably founded by Galeazzo II in the second half of the fourteenth century and so dear was his residence in Belgium that he stayed there repeatedly.

Destroyed in 1412 and then rebuilt, it was ceded as a fiefdom in 1412. After several steps he arrived at Don Antonio Barbiano who built the beautiful gate and embellished almost the entire palace by renovating the vast gardens and greenhouses.

The castle of Belgioioso is today a precious monument of great historical, artistic and cultural value: from a splendid country residence it has become, thanks to the Ente Fiera dei Castelli di Belgioioso e Sartirana, a meeting place for writers, philosophers, musicians and artists, home to exhibitions that make a trend and tell the story of the costume of our country.
