Piazza Cavour

Overview

Como’s Gathering Place

Piazza Cavour is Como’s beating heart: a lively hub of exchange of people meeting and socialising. From the large square, embraced by the many historically significant period buildings like hotels, banks, shops, bars and restaurants, you can admire the incredible landscape overlooking Lake Como.

In the centre of Piazza Cavour is a green area with flower beds, flowers, fountains and benches to sit on facing the lake. It is strictly a pedestrian area; you can set off to explore the old town or head for the lake from here. It rarely happens, but during floods the square is covered by water, almost like a small Venice.

Piazza Cavour retains a curious history. The area was once marshland, then a port and, after the reservoir was filled in, it was transformed into the imposing square it is today. The open space once housed a large fountain, which was sold and is now located in New York.
