Moltrasio

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

A holiday destination since the 18th century and then a tourist destination, Moltrasio rises vertically from the shore of Lake Como to an altitude of 1250 metres. Different environments follow one another and the biodiversity is remarkable, with over 700 species of vegetation classified in the area.

4 themed routes (water, stone, history, panorama) allow you to discover the village and its surroundings. Not to be missed are the parish church dedicated to Saints Martin and Agatha, which houses artistic treasures from the early 16th to the 18th century, the Romanesque church of Sant'Agata, with its fine frescoes, several villas (now private) that have hosted personalities and artists such as Villa Le Rose, Villa Passalacqua and Villa Salterio Erker.

There are a number of wine cellars in the area known as "Crotti", built in moltrasina stone, ideal places for storing wine. One of the typical dishes of Lake Como is missoltini, fish often served with polenta.

The town organises numerous events including the Patronal Feast of St Martin in November, the Christmas torchlight procession in December, the La Culman Trophy in October and the Torno-Moltrasio swimming crossing on the last Monday of July.
