Sale Marasino

Overview

On the Brescian shore of Lake Iseo, in the heart of the Riviera degli Ulivi, is the village of Sale Marasino, a treasure trove of elegant villas, gardens, olive groves and centuries-old sacred buildings, a testimony to its past. Due to its strategic location, Sale Marasino was chosen as a summer residence by the most important noble families of Brescia. Even today, you can admire several stately villas overlooking the lake. Such as Villa Martinengo, a typical example of Renaissance architecture which, with its magnificent park, is one of the most majestic residences on the entire lake.

Strolling through the streets of the historic centre, on the other hand, you will find several churches: don't miss the eighteenth-century Basilica of San Zeno, dedicated to the saintly protector of freshwater fishermen. A spectacular neoclassical staircase introduces the interior, richly frescoed in Baroque style. The former church of San Pietro dei Disciplini, on the main street of the village, and the 15th-century church of San Antonio Abate, which houses important frescoes, date back to earlier centuries.

The village of Sale Marasino is the starting point for enchanting excursions.  In fact, several locations can be reached such as: Monte Isola, the ancient Strada Valeriana with its panoramic path and Punta Almana with the trekking route that leads to the Forcella di Sale (1018 m). Very characteristic then is the small island of Loreto, located in the middle of the lake, opposite the village harbour, where it is possible to visit a castle enclosed in a beautiful park garden.
