Gardone Riviera

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

A locality on the Brescian shore of Lake Garda, characterised by a mild climate, Gardone Riviera is inextricably linked to the figure of Gabriele D’Annunzio.

In fact, he lived here from 1921 until his death, in the Vittoriale degli Italiani, a monumental citadel that houses the poet's home, the mausoleum with his tomb, a large amphitheatre where a prestigious series of concerts and theatre is held in the summer, and the ship Puglia, set in the park and donated by the Navy.

From the lakeside, after seeing Villa Alba and the tower of San Marco, one can climb up to the old part of the village where the parish church of San Nicola is located. The André Heller Foundation Botanical Garden, the Divino Infante Museum and the Garda Island are also worth a visit.
