Museo e Tesoro del Duomo di Monza

Overview

The majesty of the art produced by various artists and the generosity of faithful patrons have led to the creation of a wealth of precious relics and artistic works, collected in the exceptional Museum and Treasure of Monza Cathedral. These collections are not only valuable because of the rarity of the materials, but also because they provide a detailed trace of the foundation of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist up to the present day, a journey spanning more than 1400 years, during which the history of the church has been intertwined with that of Italian and European political and religious institutions. The layouts, routes and spaces, such as the Filippo Serpero section dedicated to the Treasure of the early medieval basilica and the Carlo Gaiani section, which displays works created since the 14th century, help to strengthen the link between the collections and the evolution of the history of the Cathedral.
