Golfo dei Poeti

Overview

Hiking with a sea view

You can tell it’s beautiful just from its name. The Sentiero dei Poeti (Poets’ Path) and its stunning views have charmed writers and intellectuals like George Gordon Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Also known as the Alta Via del Golfo, the path lets you cross three protected areas in eastern Liguria, where time seems to stand still and where the perfect blend of art and history reigns: the Cinque Terre National Park, the Porto Venere Regional Nature Park and the Montemarcello Magra Regional Nature Park.

The route begins in Bocca di Magra, where you can park near the small church, and continues for 44 kilometres. We recommend splitting up the itinerary over several days, to make sure you don’t miss any of the points of interest along the way.

The trail ends in Lerici, a beautiful village that offers panoramic views of Doria Castle in Porto Venere. You can stop there for a well-deserved rest and treat yourself to a plate of tagiain ai fasei with pesto or stewed rabbit with views of the sea.
