Spotorno

Overview

Surrounded by history, tourism and culture

A municipality located on the western Ligurian Riviera, Spotorno is a popular tourist resort, especially during the summer season. Famous for its welcoming beaches and crystal-clear waters, the area is home to countless natural gems to explore. Immersed in a picturesque woodland habitat nestled between Monte Mao, Rocca dei Corni and Monte Mortou, it is perfect for enjoying hikes and walks.

The well-preserved historic centre features several monuments of cultural interest, such as the Parish Church of the Santissima Annunziata, which boasts an ornately decorated façade and houses works of art that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Don’t miss the painting of the Madonna and Child between St Francis and St Anthony by Domenico Piola, one of the leading exponents of Genoese Baroque style.

Stood on the hill that overlooks the city, the ruins of Spotorno Castle are all that remains of a defensive complex that was built by the Republic of Genoa during the 16th century, testifying to the city’s great strategic importance.
