Alassio

Overview

The famous Muretto

Fall in love in Alassio, on the Western Ligurian Riviera. Here you will find the famous Muretto with works of art inspired by love: Raymond Peynet's Les Amoureux, Ero Pellini's gli Innammorati, Mastroianni's Cicogne and a postbox that holds love letters.

Also perfect for a walk for two is the promenade that runs along the beach. Go at sunset with your other half. Also worth a stop is the so-called Budello, a picturesque alleyway parallel to the waterfront. Stop at Palazzo Morteo, which houses the Carlo Levi Art Gallery with 22 canvases by the artist who spent his summers painting here.

Be captivated by the Church of Sant'Ambrogio with its Renaissance façade, Romanesque bell tower and Baroque interior. Also worth seeing are the Borgo Coscia Tower lapped by the sea and the Richard West Memorial Gallery. Richard Whateley West captured in his works the light of the Mediterranean that fascinated the English in the late 19th century.

Finally, treat yourself to a walk in the beautiful gardens of Villa Pergola with spectacular views of the gulf. Another view not to be missed is from the Church of Santa Croce built by the Benedictines in the 11th century. On clear days, the view extends as far as Corsica.
