Regina Elena Gardens

Overview

A green oasis in the heart of the old city

In the city’s ancient heart, at the top of the historic centre known as “La Pigna”, or pinecone, for its characteristic conformation, is one of Sanremo's most charming green spaces. The Regina Elena Gardens are a perfect example of the transformation of the area following the 1887 earthquake that severely damaged the town centre. It was decided to demolish some surrounding houses, at that point unsafe, and to create a park in honour of the second queen of Italy, who loved to spend her holidays in the City of Flowers.

The garden consists of a series of embankments connected by steps. Each sector houses tall trees, such as cedars, pines and Canary Island date palms. At the top of the park is a large square from which you can enjoy a splendid panorama: your gaze will sweep from the sea to the La Pigna’s rooftops.

If city parks are your passion, Sanremo has a lot to offer. Don't forget to also visit the Villa Nobel garden, Bellevue Park and the Corso Imperatrice Park, the oldest in the city.
