Via Roma

Overview

The finish line of the Milano-Sanremo road cycling race

The main thoroughfare of the Città dei Fiori (City of Flowers), Via Roma runs through Sanremo and connects strategic points of interest in the town in the province of Imperia, famous for its Festival and Casino. The street runs parallel to the sea and, with wide spaces and elegant buildings, contrasts with the narrow, twisted alleyways of La Pigna, the city’s old centre.

The street is divided into two by the square created by the intersection with Corso Augusto Mombello, adorned with an equestrian statue, tall palm trees, lawns and benches. Continuing west along Via Roma, we recommend heading towards the Casino, among Sanremo’s most iconic buildings, and Corso Imperatrice, leading to the elegant seafront promenade full of lidos. On the opposite side, Via Roma leads to the Teatro Ariston theatre, a temple of music, and the Sanremesi Medaglie d’Oro Gardens.

Via Roma is also well-known among cycling fans, who flock there every year to see cycling champions cross the finish line of the 294-kilometre Milan-San Remo road cycling race.
