Santa Chiara Loggia

Overview

The majestic loggias of the Clarisse open towards the Ligurian Sea, in a monastery that is normally inhabited, with an enduring propensity for charity, are perhaps the most attractive point of the Parasio for visitors to Porto Maurizio: the portico offers truly spectacular views. The monastery itself was founded in the 14th century and was substantially rebuilt some four centuries later. Inside the monastery church, precious paintings are on display.

Almost next door, St Peter's Oratory belongs instead to the Brotherhood of the Discipline, even further back in time as far as its origins are concerned - the small bell tower had been a watchtower - but was rebuilt between the 17th century and, for the three-arched façade, the end of the 18th century. The view from here is already breathtaking, but after admiring the sea and the hills of the hinterland, do not miss the interior: you will discover an impressive cycle of Baroque frescoes and a late 17th-century organ. However, please be aware that it is advisable to arrange the visit in advance by contacting the brotherhood.
