Frecciarossa Roma-Pompei. A high-speed journey 2,000 years into the past

Rome-Pompei Frecciarossa

2 minutes

If there's one archaeological site whose name is known worldwide, it's definitely Pompei.

Millions of tourists flock to Italy every year eager to learn about the glorious history – and tragic demise – of this once-thriving Roman city built on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius in one of the most beautiful and iconic parts of the country.

The history of the Romans is guaranteed to captivate any visitor, and being able to experience their sights, walk along their streets, go into their houses and admire the shapes and colours within is an undeniably unique experience.

Paintings and messages written on the walls tell of a daily routine in which the theatre, tabernae and spas all contributed to the well-being of body and mind as part of a kind of shared ritual.

This fascinating city is now even closer. The Italian Ministry of Culture and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, the Italian national railway company, have launched a new Frecciarossa non-stop service between Rome and Pompei, cutting journey times to one of the world's most famous tourist attractions and offering a blueprint for the management and preservation of cultural heritage.

Promotion of Italian heritage and excellence, with constant focus on sustainability: the Frecciarossa non-stop Rome-Pompei, an Italian high-speed rail flagship service, aims to encourage the development of cultural tourism by train, an unsurpassable means of sustainable travel.

This is the first step in a process of upgrading the rail network in the south of the country as part of a strategy that aims to make all the great archaeological sites fully accessible.
