Lake Bordaglia

Overview

The CAI 141 and then 142 signposts direct from the Pierabech locality, in the Carnia di Forni Avoltri, the larch woods and the nine hundred metre difference in altitude that lead to the Oasis and then to the Bordaglia Lake, a remarkable body of water of glacial formation. Before the lake, the Fleòns spring, from which the Goccia di Carnia mineral water gushes out at an altitude of 1370 metres, is found on the trail.
In addition to Bordaglia, the nearby Volaia or Wolayersee lake with its heart shape can also be reached from Rifugio Tolazzi in Collina (a hamlet of Forni Avoltri), where the car can be left.

In this case, although the route via dirt road and path along CAI marker 144 is not demanding, it takes almost two hours, and you have to climb six hundred metres. Lake Volaia lies at the foot of Friuli Venezia Giulia's highest peak, Mount Cogliàns, and has the Austrian Pichlhütte and Italian Lambertenghi-Romanin refuges on its shores. The latter recalls two Great War lieutenants in their names
