Sources of Livenza

Overview

The subtle and fascinating spectacle of a river beginning to rise from the earth can be discovered just south of Polcenigo, near the route of the provincial road 29 Pedemontana. It is possible that the name of this place, known as Santissima, has ancient roots in popular gratitude towards this small miracle of nature.

In any case, the proximity to the springs is signalled by the Renaissance Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity, which alone is worth a stop for its imposing 17th-century wooden altar and late 15th-century altarpiece. From the church, you can walk over the small bridge to the place where the water gushes out in several places into the river bed.

In the same area is the archaeological site of the Palù di Livenza, which together with other Neolithic pile-dwelling villages in the Alpine area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Before arriving in Polcenigo, the streets next to it surround the San Floriano Park, a didactic reserve for local flora and fauna that is perfectly suited to relaxing with the family and for children to play in.
