Piancavallo

Overview

From snow-capped peaks to lakes

One of the most famous ski resorts in the region, Piancavallo lies in the shadow of the Monte Cavallo mountain in Friuli Venezia Giulia. On days when the sky is clear, the view sweeps from the snow-covered peaks all the way to the Adriatic Sea.

The ski area is the perfect destination for tourists seeking outdoor experiences and snow sports. You can enjoy everything from downhill skiing, Nordic skiing, freestyle skiing and Nordic walking, to snowshoeing, bobsleighing or ice skating. The most daring visitors can even try their hand at hang-gliding from the top of Mount Castaldia.

In addition to 25 kilometres of alpine ski slopes, ski mountaineering and cross-country skiing routes depart from Piancavallo. There is also a funk park where you can practice all different styles of snowboarding to the rhythm of music. For families, we recommend visiting Nevelandia, a 25,000-square-metre amusement park.

In summer, in the lakes around Piancavallo, you can go canoeing, windsurfing and sailing or visit gorges and caves created by water erosion on karst rock. If you love walking, we highly recommend exploring the paths in the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park. History buffs are sure to love the nearby Castle of Aviano.
