Petrella Guidi

Overview

Located in the municipality of Sant'Agata Feltria, 585 metres above sea level, Petrella Guidi is one of the most fascinating villages in the Marecchia valley. Perched on a rocky outcrop, the town's medieval structure has been well-preserved, with rows of tall houses built from white stone, cobbled streets and old kilns. Enter the heart of the village through a beautiful white stone arch, bearing the crest of the castle lords (the Holy See, the Malatesta and Conti Oliva families) to see the remains of the curtain walls, a tower (thought to date from the 11th or 12th century) and the Church of St Apollinaris. The view from the village is of such rare beauty that it also inspired the Renaissance painter Piero della Francesca: from the balcony of Petrella Guidi you can admire the landscape depicted in his famous work "The Baptism of Christ" .
