Overview
The Innovation Park, located north-east of the historic centre, behind the Reggio Emilia railway station and the Mobility Interchange Centre in Piazzale Europa, is the result of the urban redevelopment of the area of the historic Officine Reggiane, the disused industrial area that recounts an important chapter in the history of Italian industry and expresses a strong symbolic and identity value.
Italy\'s fourth-largest industry, Officine Meccaniche Reggiane ceased operations in 2008 and immediate thought was given to how not to lose the spirit of innovation and technology that had characterised them.
A series of projects led to the creation of a place for academia and business to meet and collaborate. With its four advanced research laboratories, the Innovation Park aims to be the fulcrum of the new model of local economic development, based on the knowledgeeconomy, in which public administration, business and research interact organically and effectively to enhance innovation processes, increase competitiveness and business value.
