Castles of the Duchy

Overview

The jewels of Parma and Piacenza

The rolling hills of the provinces of Parma and Piacenza, in the interior of Emilia Romagna, are silent witnesses to centuries of history. Kings and queens, knights and nobles have passed through here, from Malatesta to Montefeltro, from Farnese to Gonzaga, Sforza and Malaspina. Each of these families left an indelible mark on the territory: splendid manors that can still be visited today thanks to the Association of Castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza.

Step beyond the walls of these strongholds and immerse yourself in a distant past. Some hide secrets and legends, such as the haunted abodes of the Bardi or Gropparello castles. Among the most beautiful manors, we cannot fail to mention the Rocca di Fontanellato housing frescoes by Parmigianino the Castle of Agazzano, the Visconti Rocca of Castell'Arquato, the Castle of Torrechiara and the medieval village of Vigoleno. If you prefer Baroque opulence to austere structures, don't miss the Rocca di Colorno
