Albinelli Historical Market

Overview

The oldest covered market in Modena

Immerse yourself in the chatter, colours and scents of the Albinelli di Modena Historical Market, a covered market inaugurated in 1931 and still at the centre of the city's vitality. Here you can taste all the typical products of the Modena area and enjoy authentic interactions with the people who produce and sell those delights. Treat yourself to an evening aperitif or take part in a tasting in the unmistakable atmosphere of this place that is a guardian of the city's culinary traditions.

It is the oldest covered market in the city and among the most beautiful in Italy, built in the Liberty style to create a new space for the market that traditionally took place outdoors in Piazza Grande. In the centre is a fountain with the female figure of the Fruit Carrier by the artist Giuseppe Graziosi.

Surrounding the central square, which is occupied by fruit and vegetable stalls, there are shops selling cold meats, cheeses and meat. Stop at the Schiavoni bar for a filled sandwich, enjoy sweet treats in the bread gallery and get a recipe suggestion from one of the shopkeepers who can't wait to share the secrets of good food with you.
