Ligonchio Big Bench no. 86

Overview

An immense location for an immeasurable panorama

Take a seat on an oversized bench, spacious enough to accommodate a group of friends, while enjoying breath-taking views. All this is possible in Ligonchio, in the province of Reggio Emilia. On a hill overlooking the village is the Ligonchio Big Bench no. 86.

The pink installation is part of the Big Bench project, started in 2010 by American architect Chris Bangle, who has scattered oversized benches in various places to support local communities and promote tourism and artisanal excellence in fragile regions.

The Ligonchio Big Bench no. 86 stands on Monte della Croce at a height of 950 metres above the town. It is accessible by following a path marked by unmistakable pink signs, which runs through a dense pine forest and leads to a large meadow, which also houses the war memorial to the fallen of the Great War. While sitting on the Big Bench, you will be treated to an incredible panorama of the valley from one mountain to the next.
