Villa Torlonia

Overview

The history of Villa Torlonia dates back many centuries. In Roman times it was called 'Giovedia' and had a temple dedicated to Jupiter, where Julius Caesar is said to have stopped to pray, after crossing the Rubicon in 49 BC.

The building as it stands today dates back to the 18th century. Between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the estate was rented to Leopoldo Tosi, an agronomist and engineer from Rimini, but remained the property of Torlonia. Ruggero Pascoli, the father of the famous poet, was appointed as the administrator of the Tower on behalf of Prince Torlonia.

From a Malatesta castle to a prime agricultural estate, the property now houses conference rooms, a theatre, temporary exhibitions and the Pascoliano Multimedia Museum, where visitors can enjoy an immersive itinerary made up of digital displays, video maps, audio exhibits and word games.

Villa Torlonia and the Pascoli House Museum make up the Pascoli Poetry Park, which opened in 2019 to unite the places most dear to the poet's heart.
