The father of ballroom dancing, Secondo Casadei, was born here, and every year the town hosts two unmissable events dedicated precisely to mazurka, waltz and polka. The Settimana del Liscio – Liscio Week – opens and closes the summer season, with a first event in early June and a second in mid-September.
What to expect from the Liscio Week? Lots, and lots more: tribute evenings to Romagna Mia, ballroom dancing on the beach, cabaret ballroom dancing shows and special guests such as Mirko Casadei and his Popular Folk Orchestra.
Not only beaches: the historic centre of Gatteo
Even lovers of seaside fun may need to take a little break from the well-equipped beaches and events on the Gatteo a Mare coastline. The good news is that just 10 kilometres away you can discover the historical centre of Gatteo, founded in medieval times under the name of Fundus Catei.
Upon arrival, you will notice Gatteo’s Renaissance appearance, with the square in the centre and the imposing Malatesta Castle surrounded by fortified walls. Nearby, you can visit the Parish Church of San Lorenzo Martire with its neoclassical paintings and imposing bell tower and the Oratory of San Rocco, built in 1484 and adorned with recently restored and exquisite 17th-century frescoes.
Gatteo a Mare is also the ideal place to stay if you love amusement parks. Mirabilandia is only 20 kilometres away, Fiabilandia 25 kilometres, Italia In Miniatura 14 kilometres and Aquafan, the best water park in Italy, is a 30-minute drive away.
