Casa degli Anziani

Overview

One of the most characteristic views of Pieve di Cento is undoubtedly the Piazzetta del Pozzo delle Catene, just a few metres from the main square at the intersection of Via Garibaldi and Via Risorgimento. This is where you will find the Casa degli Anziani, one of the oldest buildings in the village, dating back to 1272. Characterised by its wooden columns, it was formerly used as an inn, a shelter for passing pilgrims and a post station for horses. In the little square outside, you can also admire the marble column with a Corinthian capital. The original monument is kept in the public art gallery and dates back to the 11th-12th century. It most likely indicated the centre line of the territory according to the Roman system of centuriation.
