The Bologna Archaeological Museum

Overview

Counted among the most important archaeological collections in Italy and reflecting local history from prehistoric to Roman times, the Bologna Archaeological Museum in Palazzo Galvani was opened on 25 September 1881.

Here you will find rich collections from the ancient University Museum and countless artefacts from excavations conducted in Bologna and the region between the late 19th and early 20th century. It also preserves masterpieces of Greek and Roman art, one of the most important collections of Egyptian antiquities in Europe, and an interesting Etruscan section, a starting point for learning about the civilisation of the Etruria Padana that had its capital here.
