Bagno di Romagna

Overview

Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club

The Casentino Forests, Monte Falterona, and Campigna National Park provides the backdrop for Bagno di Romagna, in the Savio Valley, surrounded by centuries-old forests, mountains, lakes, farmlands where human activity is evident, and more secluded, untouched valleys. To explore this area, one can take bicycle tours, thanks to the Valle del Savio Bike Hub, a network of services dedicated to cycle tourism, or hiking excursions, such as those leading to Lake Pontini and Lake Lungo, or trekking at Nasseto and the Gualchiere Ring. Also worth seeing is the Lama Forest and, inside it, the first integral nature reserve established in Italy, the Sasso Fratino Reserve. For children and the curious, who enjoy discovering fantastic creatures in nature, don't miss the Gnome Trail, a path in the woods very close to the center. The hot water from the thermal springs has always been central to the foundation of the town. The springs were already frequented in Roman times, as evidenced by numerous artifacts, and today the Thermal Park consists of three different facilities that use bicarbonate-alkaline and sulfurous waters, with warm water pools at about 45°C, both indoor and outdoor.

In the historic center, developed around via Fiorentina with various buildings of the local minor nobility, the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta stands out, with traces of its original Romanesque design, and the Palazzo dei Capitani, which is now a cultural center. Also worth visiting are the Ridracoli Dam and the Ecomuseum of Ridracoli, a multifunctional building where water and the territory are the protagonists.

Among the most representative and tasty products of the area, mushrooms and chestnuts are a must-try, while local specialties include tortello alla lastra and basotto.
